Why Oprah Would Be a Fantastic Democratic Nominee for President
To boil it down to one sentence, Oprah is a self made woman. She did not create her wealth through political gain like much of the other Democratic politicians.
Looking through this lens, and seeing what a fantastic human being she is, it would be a great match up in the 2018 election to see Oprah vs. Trump. Honestly, I don't think it would be clear cut who to vote for today without hearing and seeing some of her thoughts and projected policies. As of this writing she would definitely contend, but with any luck we will see two more years of great economic growth under the current administration.
Oprah's calm demeanor and intelligence would put her far in front of the democratic competition. As long as she kept a moderate and somewhat libertarian focus she would easily clean up. It is with great hope that the deregulation that is taking place under the current administration would continue under any enlightened person who knows that government does not always have the answers to what ails humanity and the world.
It is a shame that our political system would be dominated by such celebrities, but maybe this is a sign that our bloated political classes have become to disconnected with not only their constituents, but also with reality. After all, the Clinton's, Obama's, and Bush's are now political dynasties who gained much of their money through political force, rather than free market enterprises. These are not people who had to struggle against the economic system to create their wealth, but rather helped to put the system in place that makes everyday working and business creation harder than it needs to be.
Is this something that we want? Career politicians, who are not self made determining how we live our lives? Obviously we don't want there to be a mandate where only wealthy people can become politicians, but the state of things currently is similar to a college professor who never held gainful employment outside of academia. Sure they may be very intelligent, but their career as a teacher is questionable since they do not have any real working knowledge to share with their students.
